The Olympic Village for the London Olympics requires land Space above an existing railway cutting. 900mm diameter piles were required adjacent to the railway track as foundations for a new structure forming a tunnel for the trains and a base slab for the Olympic Village building.
Martello Piling used their low headroom MP4000 series rig to install 900mm diameter piles to 19.0m.
New piles were required to strengthen the existing piers to the By-Pass, and Martello Piling were employed to install 600mm diameter piles, fully cased, to a depth of 13.0m. The Piles were installed in 5.0m of headroom using the MP4000 series piling rig, digging through soft alluvial material, and founding into firm clay.
This site "Ripper Arch" has historical significance, as it was the location of one of infamous Jack the Ripper Murders during the late 19th Century, but now was required to be strengthened as part of the East London Line upgrade. Martello Piling installed 13No, 750mm diameter piles to a depth of 13m in low headroom and confined conditions as part of the upgrading works.
