Edinburgh Waverley Station

This contract was for the construction of 71 No 600mm diameter piles designed as a propped cantilever to form a retaining wall adjacent to the West Coast Main Line at Waverley Station. Martello MP4000 and MP5000 series low headroom rigs were used to limit risk of damage to adjacent network Rail infrastructure, and these were required to bore through substantial sandstone masonry up to 9.0m thick. Penetration through the sandstone was achieved with a combination of cutting with the casing and using coring tools. The piles were founded into sandstone bedrock at 12.0m

Litchfield A38

This contract required the construction of a contiguous bored pile wall to act as a retaining wall adjacent to the West Coast Main Line at Litchfield. The piles were required to be founded several metres into sandstone bedrock, and Martello Piling developed rock cutting equipment to allow the piles to be bored with augers rather than slower coring equipment. The Martello MP400 series rig was used in a low headroom configuration to limit the risk of damage to adjacent Network Rail infrastructure.
