Martello were required to install piles to support the redevelopment of the building behind the famous 'Piccadilly Lights'. The development will comprise of retail units and residential apartments in the heart of Piccadilly.
The nature of the site required a compact rig to be lifted into site to install piles within 3.7m-5.7m of headroom.
Utilizing the bespoke MP4000 series piling rigs for the first phase and MP5000/6000 for second phase, Martello installed a total of 146no. 750/900/1050mm diameter piles to 36m within 3.7m-5.7m of headroom.
The MP4000 rigs were stripped down to 10.6t which allowed them to be lifted into the basement and deliver the first phase of the contract. Operating from within the existing basement allowed for the main contractors to remove the upper structure, thus reducing programme and cutting costs.
