A commercial skyscraper located in the City of London financial district and is set to stand 278m tall
Pile Type: Low headroom bearing
Number of Piles: 85no.
Diameter: 1050mm
Depth: 30m - 37m
The project required an upgrade to the foundations of an existing partially built structure. Large diameter piles (1050mm) were required to be constructed to a depth of 37m, from the existing lower basement, 15m below the existing road level and within only 5.0m of headroom.
The project was first piled in the 1980's and then further developed in 2007. Martello employed 2no. MP4000 series rigs to construct the 85no. 1050mm diameter piles. Rig and materials were lifted into the basement via crane from street level through an existing core.
By undertaking the piling works for the new core from within the existing basement, the existing scheme could be demolished at the same time that the piling and ground works were being undertaken.
Piling works were undertaken in advance of any demolition allowing the client to achieve program and cost savings.
